Learn the technique of lifting the bite in braces
What is an occlusion lift in braces?
Braces lift (also known as braces lift) is one of the orthodontic techniques through specialized instruments placed on the teeth to create a gap to adjust the bite of the two jaws.
The instruments used to lift the jaw in braces are usually made from composite, rubber, medical plastic, or stainless metal. The working mechanism of the jaw lift is to prevent the teeth in the two jaws from touching each other excessively, adjusting the bite joint to the standard.

Benefits of braces bite lift
During the process of braces, lifting the bite helps to protect the braces system, limit strong impact forces, and avoid the case of braces unraveling. In the case of transparent braces, the jaw lift technique is usually performed through the integrated bite lift points directly on the braces, supporting effective bite control.
Not only supporting the braces process, lifting the bite also supports you to minimize the impact force of the teeth when the bite is misaligned, limiting enamel wear. In some cases of deep bite, crossbite, the teeth in the upper and lower jaws can collide strongly, eroding or cracking the enamel. When the bite is adjusted, the resistance between the two jaws is minimized.

When to lift a braces bite?
Deep bite
Deep bite is a case where the upper teeth bite deeply, hugging almost the entire lower molar, the chewing surface of the lower jaw or the edge of the teeth in the lower teeth is in contact with the bottom of the inner gums of the upper teeth. This condition is common in many patients, hindering the eating process and affecting facial balance.
For cases of deep bite that require braces, doctors and experts often prescribe a bite lift to create a space between the two teeth. This not only helps patients protect tooth enamel, limit braces, but also supports orthodontics to take place more easily.

Crossbite
Crossbite is a case where the tooth shaft is misaligned, pointing inward or outward, affecting the bite joint between the upper and lower jaws. When eating, chewing, the crossbite will create a great force on the teeth and jaw joints. For these orthodontic cases, the doctor recommends lifting the occlusion, creating a space between the two jaw arches to limit resistance, creating favorable conditions during the braces process, helping the teeth move to the standard position more easily.

Reverse bite
Reverse bite (also known as underbite), is a condition in which the teeth in the lower jaw arch fully embrace the teeth in the upper jaw arch, deflecting the correlation between the two jaws, affecting the aesthetics of the face. When lifting the braces bite, there will be a gap between the two jaws, creating conditions for the process of pulling and correcting teeth to take place quickly and conveniently, limiting resistance. However, for severe cases, experts and doctors often prescribe more intensive methods.

Open bite
An open bite is caused by two closed teeth that still create a gap. This condition not only affects eating, the open bite also makes many people feel less confident when communicating. The braces jaw lift method creates a cushioning layer to help limit the force directly on the teeth, protect the teeth and braces.

Lifting the bite joint with braces is only applied in certain cases. For advice on the right condition of your teeth and the right braces regimen, come to Vic’ Dental.
